A path is an established line of travel or access. We all follow paths, whether from home to the café or to from the car park to the airport terminal. My favorite path is from the elevator to the book store at the mall. Makes me wonder how many people have walked on it; so many people that may have gone to get a copy of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. That’s very specific Sanj. But I’m so excited!
Paths have already been made. Made to follow. I’m not saying that following in the footsteps of your icons is wrong. Life lessons from people who have walked the path before you are like guiding lights. But when are you going to get out there? When are you going to build your own personality, develop your own tastes? When are you going to be you and not just a combination of traits of those you admire? When are you going to wander off that path and create a trail?
A path also refers to the direction in which a person or thing is moving. You may be at crossroads in life, how do you choose what to do? Do what makes you happy. As Sirius Black said, “What is life without a little risk?”. Take the feelings of those around you in account when you decide though as there is a fine line between selfishness and self-love.
In life, you’ll be met with ups and downs. Your path will have lots of mixed terrain: from steep, windy roads up a mountain to the sandy, flat soil of the beach. These challenges make or break you. Tripping over a rock or falling into a puddle shouldn’t dishearten you from continuing on to your destination. Instead, learn from your mistakes and be cautious.
Enjoy the moments of happiness: when the sun seems to rise and meet the horizon right at the edge of your path, when beautiful flowers flourish alongside, when the shade of a tree shields you from the sun’s rays. Don’t forget the feeling of euphoria as it will be your motivation to persevere and go on.
Those you meet along your path play a role in shaping your thoughts and views. The little rabbit that scurried away as you approached, the wolf that looked at you threateningly, affect your actions and attitude. Take the positive and leave behind the negative. Leave it to the breeze.
A path guides you to your destination. Walk along it, observe your surroundings, take it all in. For it is the journey that matters. The challenges you face, the people you meet, the lessons you learn make you who you are. When you discover a route that hasn’t been taken and wish to explore it, go ahead. Leave your trail.
